Impulse Purchase

In 2015, on a cold and wet November Sunday, Scott and I were traipsing around Astoria looking at houses and thinking about retirement someday in the future. We drove past a house that we had previously looked at and decided would never be what we needed. We wanted to see if it had sold and what changes the flippers had made to it. Next door was a lot with Columbia River views we had thought was a side yard to an adjacent property. It had a sign, For Sale - Buildable Lot.

We called the number and made the deal for the property within twenty minutes. It turns out the owner, Captain Robert - a Columbia River pilot, lived two doors down. In the spring of 2016 we had the laurel bushes on the slope and the scrub at the corner of the lot hacked down so we could see what we actually had purchased - it is something special!
