We officially have heat! I walked in Monday morning to find Ron Dugan from Dugan's Heating Solutions installing a mini-split air conditioning unit in the entry way. He had already installed the unit in the den.
We arrived in the afternoon to find Ron installed of the units in the living room and primary bed room upstairs and was working on the heat pump behind the house. And Brian had picked up the hardwood floors from Portland and staged them around the house.
Tuesday we arrived and the house was warm, everywhere. Not just warm by a furnace blowing air around, but comfortable in every room and in all the corners including the garage. And the mini-split units were set at 66 degrees.
Brian said Ron Dugan stayed until 7:30 the night before to finish the job. Nice!
While the hardwood floors acclimated to the warm rooms, Brian laid the ipe pallets on the first floor deck. We struggled with the straight or parquet pattern decision. The architects wanted a straight pattern, Scott and Brian preferred the parquet. Whatever we decided would be the pattern for the larger living room deck as well. Knowing that we would be oiling or staining the ipe, I did some internet research to see what the final product might look like.

We chose the parquet pattern. In my research I also found great examples of ipe pallets used for patios that could work in the courtyard, too.
Meanwhile, Brian finished the bedroom deck and installed the stantions for the railings. The steel guys will weld another piece of steel across the top that has a vertical flange for the ipe cap.
The flooring having acclimated enough, installation began Saturday afternoon. Brian the flooring guy, not to be confused with contractor Brian, will be working on it over the next week or so.
Next week the tile arrives and so that work will begin.
