The week started with variable weather, from hail to rain, to sun then snow, then hail and rain again. It was truly a "If you don't like the weather, scenario." By midweek the sun was out, the temps started to climb and it was beautiful. You can see the snow on the mountains across the river in Washington in the photo above. This photo was taken from our primary bedroom window.
I had noticed a couple weeks ago that the soffit was missing above the refrigerator and pantry cabinet area in the kitchen. It was in the renderings and in the detailed elevations, but not specifically called out. I brought it up to Brian on that Friday and he was like "What? No, that can't be!"
Brian pulled out the framing drawings and looked through everything. We found a reference in one place. Not surprising that it was missed. I had a hard time finding it again to include in the blog, that's how small a detail it is.
By Tuesday this week we had a soffit. Brian had originally thought to wait until the cabinets were in, but ultimately decided to measure the pantry cabinet for height and get the soffit in and done.
Even though it's just drywall I think it already makes a difference. The lights hit the soffit and brightens the area, whereas in the previous photo the area going back to the wall is dark.
During breaks in the weather on Tuesday Brian installed the ipe shiplap fascia on the living room deck. The ipe will eventually be stained or oiled to match the ipe pallets that will rest on the deck. On sunny Wednesday and Thursday he began installation of the stainless steel stanchions for the deck railing.
I like this photo better. It doesn't show the detail of the deck as well, but it's a great view from the primary bedroom deck and you can see the deck off the den on the first floor with it's ipe pallet floor. Actually, you can see all three decks in this photo!

Brian the flooring guy has been working weekend days and evenings on the flooring. He's had some specialty tool issues and seems difficult to keep on task. But he's obviously very good at what he does. The floors are beautiful.
